What is 3M?
You may be familiar with 3M through their many brands such as Command Strips™, Post-it™, or NexCare™ just to name a few. 3M is also the largest distributor of vehicle wrap materials in the world. Although it is a global company, 3M is headquartered in the United States of America.
What is the certification process?
First, the vehicle wrap installation company is examined to be sure they are following best business practices. Next, the installer is given a hands-on test and a written test to demonstrate their knowledge and ability. This test is not easy! Once the graphics installer has passed the tests, the business pledges to continue to use the 3M Installation Procedures and to follow their business ethics.
How do I know if a graphic installer is 3M certified?
Check out their website for the 3M Certified mark or ask the company when you call. You can also locate a 3M certified vehicle wrap installer on 3M’s website.
What difference does the certification make?
- 3M certified installers have superior installation knowledge and skills.
- 3M certification means that the installer’s business ethics carry a stamp of approval from the much larger global corporation of 3M. That stamp of approval is not given out lightly!
- The graphics installation company carries liability insurance. This protects your vehicles when you bring them to be wrapped.
- The installer will be using the best quality vinyl. Ever see a car wrap with bubbles, wrinkles, or cracks? That’s an example of poor vinyl quality and/or poor skill. That will not happen with a 3M Certified car wrap installer.

What is UASG?
The United Application Standards Group is an organization that represents the best of the industry on the national level. Members of the UASG hold 3M Certification and have been interviewed on-site to be sure they hold to a high standard of professionalism. This includes being in business for at least 3 years and employing people full-time.
In other words, when a company is part of the UASG, you know the graphic installer is not just a guy in his garage with some free time and a stack of decals to sell.
